See & Hear More of the 1969 BFG #49 ZL1

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

1969 BFG #49 ZL-1 Corvette Race Car… one of 3 team cars sponsored by BF Goodrich during ’71-’73 showcasing their new line of T/A Radials. #49 competed in the trifecta of sports car racing; 12 Hrs of Sebring, 24 Hrs of Daytona, and 24 Hrs of LeMans. The 3 team cars #48, #49, & #50 were owned & campaigned by John Greenwood (inducted into the Sebring Raceway Hall of Fame in ’02). Driven by top road course drivers of the period; Greendyke, Greenwood, Johnson, Smothers, Yenko. 1st major win was 1st place in GT in ’72 at Watkins Glen 6 Hr driven by Greenwood and Smothers. In ’73 it was campaigned at 12 hr of Sebring, Daytona 24 hr and at 24 hr of LeMans. At LeMans, it set the GT speed record of 215mph on the Mulsanne Straight. Was delivered as a 69 factory L88 & was used by John Greenwood as a PR car. When the #50 car was heavily damaged in a crash in ’72, he converted the #49 to a race car, installing all of the famous Greenwood innovations, notched rear end, quick replacement radiator, quick camber adjustment, and a new Chevy ZL1 all aluminum 427 cu engine producing over 750 hp @ 6500 rpm. Restored to concourse condition in ’08 by Kevin Mackay of Corvette Repair & debuted at Quail Motorsports ’08 where it received Best in Class over a strong field of Sebring Race Cars.

Who do you trust?…

Monday, August 8th, 2011

A report released by the BBB (Better Business Bureau) categorized nearly a half million complaints into 70 different categories over a 12 month period. The niche market vacuum cleaner service received the fewest complaints (1,244) where as much maligned remodeling contractors were all alone at the top with 33,125 reports. Auto Repair (7,664), Finance Companies (5,921), Attorneys (4,628), accountants (3,909), financial planners (3,771), and bankers (3,246) all appear in the top half of the list. Used car dealers rank below local charities in the complaint department, albeit just one spot, sitting in the 42nd (2,638) position. We would like to think it was a testament to hard work in an industry that often finds itself in no win situations. We would like to think this downward trend will put us in the neighborhood of the chimney sweep (1,442) twelve months from now but only time will tell. What we can guarantee is at ProTeam, we will continue to work to make your Corvette buying experience exceptional so you can answer the question of “Who do you trust?” with an ecstatic “ProTeam Classic Corvette.” Comments, email: terry@proteamcorvette.com

Homogenization…

Monday, August 1st, 2011

the act of blending components together thoroughly has given the Corvette hobby some of the nicest fake wanna-bees that I have ever inspected and a loss of confidence in security of value. Legitimate cars with legitimate components and legitimate option combinations are very hard to find and quite desirable. Legitimate cars are the benchmark for value and investment. Do your due diligence prior to buying your next rare Corvette or you may be joining the Gala Homogenization Party…by default!!! It’s big…it’s bad…it’s ugly!!! This fostered an interesting email thread:
Terry- I’m one of those people in the background of the hobby (Been to your store many times since 1994, talked to you at the shows, been to seminars you’ve held with Al on restamps, etc).   You have always been a benchmark and a leader in the hobby and have admired you from a far.

Thanks so much for once again taking the lead on discussing the big elephant in the room!  I personally am a NCRS judge (Miami valley Chapter; thanks for your support over the years) and am amazed on the fraud out there.  Business & people have been sniffed out and dealt with and Pro-Team is still standing to prove your integrity.

Thanks for your life long dedication to the hobby that started w/ building a Corvette Graveyard that turned into a collector car dealership.  Thank you for staying focused in the Corvette Hobby while others have shifted to Muscle Cars and exotics.

Keep up the good work and I will continue to refer people you as a trusted/knowledgeable company for their next classic Corvette acquisition.  Hopefully one day we can relax together w/ a drink and a cigar. – M.T.Mills, July 28th, 2011

Terry – I’m sure I am not telling you anything you don’t already know or haven’t heard already.

Validity is of great concern to me and I’m sure anyone buying a car like this.  I don’t mind paying for something that is worth the money, but you obviously have to sure you are getting what is advertised. The horror stories definitely scare me. People looking to make something what it really isn’t.

If that car was a fake it is a real shame.  Our hobby is being ruined by the few to the detriment of the many. It hurts you as a business owner and me as the buyer because it makes all of us suspicious.  You are only as trustworthy as your reputation I guess. Thanks for the info. – J.Cruz, July 28th, 2011

Did you get struck by lightning, sometimes you come up with some interesting stuff. Homogenization has taken over making the hobby less interesting and more cautious. Hope some others read your transcripts, You old Soothsayer you. Still looking for a Gasser car. Thanks – T.O’Brien, July 28th, 2011

Here’s your chance to add to the discussion! I’m listening with both barrels. terry@proteamcorvette.com

Costume Jewelry, Clones, Tributes, re-Creations, Fakes, and Frauds…

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

are scattered all over the re-sale landscape especially on eBay and the televised collector car auctions.

Fact: legitimate cars with legitimate components and legitimate documentation are becoming harder to find. Who does your authentication, due diligence, and pre-purchase inspections? Are they qualified? A fake Rolex may turn your wrist green but a made-up fake Corvette will rob the green from your billfold. Would you prefer costume jewelry or pieces of eight? Looking for cubic knowledge about Corvettes?

Comparison Shopping…

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

is not easy as not all Corvettes were created equal and not all Corvettes are restored equally… What is important to you?
A) just price?
B) VIN tag and attachments?
C) body/trim tag?
D) engine stamp pad?
E) body repairs?
F) documentation?
G) Bloomington/NCRS awards?
H) transmission?
I) rear end?
J) color combination?
Legitimate cars with legitimate components and legitimate documentation are becoming harder to find. Did you know that there is a database of Corvette VIN numbers (over 400) that are not legitimate and most information came from inspections of these cars at collector car auctions or judged events?

How does one compare the value of a black 1967 with a blue 1967 when GM made so few black Corvettes in 1967? Did you know that option combinations make certain legitimate Corvettes very hard to find and desirable?

Who does your due diligence and pre-purchase inspections? Are they qualified? Do they know the difference between real and memorex? How do you compare one Corvette on eBay or an auction TV show (if you’re not there) with another? Comments, email: terry@proteamcorvette.com

Over 200 Million Dollars…

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

was raked in by seven collector car auction companies in January 2011… These are huge numbers that show that the popularity of car collecting has not diminished… This will be a good year for the auction companies. Congratulations! Comments? Email: terry@proteamcorvette.com
